Great Things Happening Across Eastern Victoria

My name’s Chris and I’ve recently assumed the role of Eastern Region Coordinator within SU Victoria’s Field Ministries Team. Having spent the last 5 years working within SU’s Schools Community Development Team, I’m really excited by the progression from a schools focus to a “whole of mission” focus.

SU have been present my whole life. From attending family camps when I was a kid; growing as a follower of Jesus on Leadership with Legs, MAD (Make a Difference) and Plunge camps as a high school student; following my sister to the Apollo Bay and Carlton SUFM teams in the 1990’s and 2000’s and finally, coming to work at SU in 2015. I also recall my mum keeping me supplied with a steady stream of ‘Daily Bread’ Bible reading notes throughout my teenage years.

As Eastern Regional Coordinator, I’ve been given the privilege of partnering with and supporting missions, directors and teams, chaplains, schools volunteers and local churches from Melbourne’s eastern suburbs all the way to Eden (just over the NSW border). We’re inviting and empowering people of all ages to be part of God’s work in young lives.

The region currently includes:

• 15 SUFM and Theos teams
• 17 school chaplaincies
• 3 teams of schools volunteers
• 4-5 camps including CHAT (Cultural Hearing Asking Telling) Sports Camps and MAD (Making A Difference) Camps
• A range of Catalyst conversations including growing partnerships with collectives of churches in Yarram, Leongatha, Bairnsdale, Mallacoota, Pakenham and Warragul/Drouin.

In a season of physical isolation and a global pandemic, it’s inspiring to see what God is doing. I’m excited to be a part of what we can facilitate and realise across Eastern Victoria, and am glad to be able to celebrate God’s Kingdom coming in so many ways and in so many places.
