From The State Director - May Update
Local People, Big Impact
God is at work through SU Victoria! We continue to grow and innovate. WildLife, a creation care day camp, launched as a partnership with A Rocha and Interserve, and we hope this will grow into more camps in the coming year. Lorne SUFM returned over Easter at the invitation of the local church, and our first Primary School CHAT (Cultural Hearing Asking Telling) day camp ran in Dandenong led by a local SU chaplain with a volunteer team.
Term One was an incredibly busy time for our Regional Coordinators, coming off an inspiring summer of ministry. We’ve welcomed 14 new chaplains and 15 new chaplaincy programs – many in regional communities experiencing significant socioeconomic challenges. SOAR Adventures in Castlemaine was our first post-covid volunteer school program to recommence in 2021.
Camp Coolamatong is heavily booked with school camps. Feedback from schools demonstrates the impact our team, interns and camping program have with both students and staff. The Coolamatong Building Project is nearing completion. We have built a cool room and added two combi ovens in the Lake Camp kitchen and construction has commenced on the Lake Camp multi-purpose hall.
This week is a significant time for SU Victoria and for Scripture Union movements around Australia. On Saturday 8th May, members in the State and Territory movements voted to join SU Australia. More information is provided in this latest National Update, linked here. The heart of this transition is to grow grassroots ministry in local communities so that even more children, young people and families experience God’s love and Good News. Please pray for Peter James, the incoming Group CEO of the national movement and for the SU Victoria team as the new ministry structure is established.
At this time, there’s also some personal news I’m keen to share with you as part of the SU family, please click here for Justin’s Update.
Thanks so much for being part of SU! In all our prayers for you, we pray with joy because of your partnership in the Good News (Philippians 1.6).
God bless you.
