Going from A 2 B at Mount Waverley

Chaplain Haley

Our students missed a lot of face-to-face learning through COVID. Teachers and Wellbeing staff quite regularly find kids who can't keep up, who don't know how to schedule or organise themselves. I volunteered to run A2B, a program developed by SU in Queensland, to help develop those skills in a context of engagement and fun. The students choose a skill they want to develop—if they like footy, they might decide to learn to kick the footy on their other foot—and put together a plan to execute that learning. Afterwards, they reflect on how that process translates to school and other areas of life.
Alongside the value for individual students, other benefits of the program are peer relationships and friendships built with trusted adults and mentors. Having placement students as part of the team, and the diversity they bring, makes the program much more effective. The results are so much better.
