Young Leaders Building SU's Future Together

Rachel, Voices 2020 Delegate

In 10 year’s time, what would you want SU Leadership to look like in your country and around the world? This was just one question explored by more than 100 young leaders as they gathered together online for VOICES 2020. Rachel, Tidal River SUFM, MAD Camp, School Ministry Volunteer and past Schools Intern, represented SU Victoria at this global Scripture Union event.

VOICES 2020 was an opportunity to meet together with SU people from around the world. We talked about our ministries, reflected on experiences this year, shared what God’s been teaching us and dreamt together about the future. Voices 2020 left us wanting more opportunities for international collaboration. While meeting together in person is wonderful, holding this gathering online made it a lot more accessible for so many of those who participated.

One of the guys in my small group was from SU in Greece. He’d been really challenged this year by how they measured ministry success. Previously they would talk about how large their event was and how many people attended, but this year they’ve not been able to run big camps or conferences. They’ve realised that success is actually about the relationships built and the steps young people take towards Jesus. This was a good reminder for me as we’re planning Beach Mission for this summer, knowing we can’t have as large a team and can’t cater for as many kids. He told us that things might look totally different but God still moves. You don’t need to do things the way they’ve always been done for God’s Word to be shared.

In an unprecedented year, it’s great to know that when we’re making decisions we’ve never faced before, there are SU movements in Europe and other places that have just finished their summer and they’ve dealt with the things we’re facing. We’re not alone and, despite our differences, we’re facing similar challenges and can learn from what’s been done.
