Meet our 2011/12 Interns
Investing in people has always been important for SU – which is why each year we aim to improve our internship program to give our interns an enriching and growing experience. This year we have partnered with Praxis to deliver a Diploma in Youth Work as a key component for our church internship program.
Welcome back for another year of adventures: Jocelin Kan – from Moreland Crossway Baptist Church, and Melissa Furniss – from Werribee Salvation Army
Melissa Furniss
I live in Werribee and attend Wyndham City Salvation Army. I decided to do the internship because I love and am passionate about young people! I love serving God and he has led me to this stage in my life. I know that working with youth, my church, and doing this internship will stretch my faith and my knowledge of working with young people. This is where I’m meant to be right now!
Jocelin Kan
I live in Wheelers Hill and attend Crossway Moreland in Brunswick. I chose to do the youth internship because I love young people and want to be God’s instrument to shed light into their world, to empower them, to love them, and teach them. I want to use my creativity in some shape or form to bring colour into their lives, but also to witness their journey and growth.
We also welcome our new interns:
Based in Melbourne:
Sean Wilde I’m currently living in Boronia and I attend Enjoy Church in Mulgrave. I am really passionate about music, particularly classical piano, cooking weird and wonderful things and more recently I’ve found a passion for youth. I am working at SU alongside some new and old friends, including my fiancé Bek, to whom I’ll be married in December!
Rebekkah Brookes
My hope during my internship is to forge meaningful relationships with the kids during my placement over the course of the year, to be able to mentor them and model positive values and attributes. Though this may be challenging at times, I am trusting God’s strength and wisdom to make a positive difference both within myself, amongst the young people and as a member of the SU team.
Timothy “Teepee” Parker I am 20 years old, attend Liberty Family Church, Healesville and play guitar and have a love for a wide variety of music. I am also very sporty, especially basketball. I am always ready for a good joke and there is always time for shenanigans. The placement in the school working with the students has been great, and in such a short time they have taught me more than I thought I would learn in a year. My hope is to make a difference in the lives of the kids we work with.
